Found Object Painting

I fell in love with found object art about a year ago when I made a small sculpture out of a piece of sheet metal salvaged from my local landfill. It played to my interest of material history and my love for turning nothing into something. As an interdisciplinary artist, one goal of mine is to overlap concepts, ideas, and aesthetics when I can. So, I began to think, “How can I apply this interest in found object and metal working into other art mediums?” What came to my mind was color shapes, a fundamental element of painting which became the foundation of this series of work. However, I also wanted to bring this conceptually driven idea into a space where it might seem more understandable to a general audience.

This series aims to expand what a painting can look like, on the principle that a painting is made up of color shapes. These compositions were created on this very principle. By organizing metal scraps into a visual composition, utilizing minimal overlap and basic color shapes, I created what I consider to be "Found Object Painting."
